Photoartist is merely a set of filters with a clumsy interface to boot. Compared to a full-featured professional image editor like Photoline ($65), Photoartist is absurdly overpriced.
Photoline not only has many more filters & effects than Photoartist, it does nearly everything Photoshop does. I used Photoshop for years, but now Photoline does everything I need as a fraction of the cost.
Photoline is a true professional-level image app with a wide array of advanced, customizable tools & brushes, FX & filters, layer & mask modes & modifiable KB shortcuts. It even uses Photoshop plugins.
What's more, Photoline has an amazing SVG drawing mode with perspective, distortion, image tracing & 3D. It even does multi-page layout with full text features. It imports & exports dozens of formats & much more. Photoline can even host & run other apps & use their functions. It's also extremely fast & easy to use and stable as a rock.
Photoline has a fully functional 30 day free trial on MacUpdate.
For anyone who does image editing, SVG drawing or page layout, I highly recommended giving Photoline a try.

A nice program that gives you easy and quick effects, but I had trouble getting it to work on higher resolution images. If you want to add an effect to a photo for the web, this is great, but to make a print, it could still use a little work (unless I was doing something wrong, which is entirely possible :-)

Now, now, mister cool one...I suggest you go outside and not let a little comment about a title get you so snobishly involved. The program is cool and the title can be looked at as being pretentious. But it seems you are having trouble with the possibility that this might be true. So enjoy your walk.

Now, now, boys... Move away from the computer and go outside and get some air. Arguing over the name... tacky. PhotoArtist is a cool program. geez.

I think the point that photos can be art on their own is a good one. The title "PhotoArtist" is pretentious since it implies one has to mess with a photo for it to be art. Both can be art. That being said I love programs that stretch the parameters of manipulation.
